News has surfaced that a new Tesla update would roll back a software update that prevented autopilot mode to now break the speed limit. A December update prevented autopilot mode to exceed speed limits on certain types of roads. However, due to the classification of the automated system, drivers are able to over-ride and set the autopilot speed over the speed limit on highways (up to 90mph). The original update aimed to keep speeds below speed limits on roads without center dividers, but now the speed limit can be exceeded on those types of roads.
It seems that Tesla is unsure of wether to give full control to driver or the automated systems. But, at the same time, it is a bit comforting that 90mph settings have not caused any major precipitating events that would change policy and settings otherwise.
