iOS 10.1 What you need to know

iOS 10.1 dropped today, while all the hype around it starting with enabling the Portrait mode on iPhone 7 Plus devices, it also disabled the “hack” to turn off the message center screen effects. There was a very serious security bug patched CVE-2016-4673, this allowed viewing a JPEG infected with the arbitrary code to run on your device.  Bottom line update ASAP.

Available for: iPhone 5 and later, iPad 4th generation and later, iPod touch 6th generation and later

Impact: Viewing a maliciously crafted JPEG file may lead to arbitrary code execution

Description: A memory corruption issue was addressed through improved memory handling.

CVE-2016-4673: Marco Grassi (@marcograss) of KeenLab (@keen_lab), Tencent

This was also patched in macOS 10.12.1 along with several other bugs.
