Tomorrow will mark a sad day, as one of Amazon’s advantages over traditional big box sellers will finally come to an end. It has been a slow, iterative process, but the final 5 states will now be added to the list of locations that will have sales tax added in-cart.
It was an early benefit that first alluded many to Prime subscriptions. As the cost of shipping and the cost of no taxes made most products significantly less than their in-store counterparts. However, it made for some interesting issues, as many states require unpaid sales taxes be disclosed in tax filings. This tax issue might be alleviated, but at the price of higher costs based on your location.
However, for those lucky few states that do not have a state sales tax, you will be in the clear.
